Safety Equipment

This is a list of the equipment we trialled in the process of controlling the hazards associated with tank dipping.

E-Flare for health and safety

E-flare

This is a flashing light that was chosen to specifically raise the attention of customers driving onto the forecourt while staff are measuring the level of fuel in the tanks. It complies to a number of Australian Standards and safety tests. It costs approximately $100 depending on the choice of flashing colours.

High visibility vest

High visibility vests

This vest was chosen following pilot site feedback. It costs approximately $30. It complies to:

  • AS/NZS 4602.1:2011 day and night time use
  • AS/NZS 1906.4:2010 fabric type
  • AS/NZS 4399: 1996 Sun protection

Spill kit wheelie bin

Most sites already have these, so we included it in the tank dipping procedure to raise the height of the eflare to make it more visible. They can cost anywhere between $300 - $1,000 for a 120L bin.

Reflective Tape

Reflective tape

This was used because some of the wheelie bin colours are difficult to see, particularly at night. A 50m roll costs approx. $30.

LP Gas Leaks

Brass caps < $10
Impervious gloves (leather not fabric) < $100 .
